The Story Silver Atlas

Silver Atlas was formed by Alan Ruffin and Jason Lichon in Chicago in the summer of 2001.
When they formed the band their aim was to combine the music production techniques
of groups like Massive Attack, Bjork and The Sneaker Pimps (i.e. trip-hop and downtempo)
with the singer-songwriter
sensibilities of Brit-pop groups like The Verve, Radiohead and David Gray.
Their first album, 4 a.m., was released by Infinite Buddha Records a year later.
Shortly thereafter, the duo put a band together in order to perform the material live.
In late 2005 the band released their second album, Layover. As on their first album, the
band explores several genres and mood simultaneously staying true to their trip-hop and brit-pop
roots.
Low-key soul, beat infested rock,
and up-tempo house grooves all add to the allure of this amazing album.
So where does Silver Atlas take us this time? With Layover the band endeavored to
create a more organic feel, using live drums and percussion to produce
a hybrid groove of
electronic and human beats. While the core creative direction is managed by founders Ruffin
and Lichon, the addition of players Rex Espinosa, Joe Bianco, and John Mastro has added
instrumental virtuosity to the band's bag of tricks.
