Who Is Silver Atlas?

Silver Atlas was formed by Alan Ruffin and Jason Lichon in Chicago in the summer of 2001. Their first album, 4 a.m., was released by Infinite Buddha Records a year later. Shortly thereafter, the duo put a band together in order to perform the material live.

In late 2005 the band released their second album, Layover. As on their first album, the band explores several genres and mood simultaneously. Low-key soul, beat infested rock, and up-tempo house grooves all add to the allure of this amazing album.

So where does Silver Atlas take us this time? With Layover the band endeavored to create a more organic feel, using live drums and percussion to produce a hybrid groove of electronic and human beats.

While the core creative direction is managed by founders Ruffin and Lichon, the addition of players John Mastro and Mark Kevich  has added instrumental virtuosity to the band's bag of tricks.

Influences
When Jason and Alan first got together the aim was make a sound that would fit in with bands like the Sneaker Pimps, PJ Harvey, and Massive Attack.  Other key influences are Bjork, Underworld, The Charlatans, and David Gray.  The list could go on and on, actually.
The Sound
Think:  Massive Attack vs. Coldplay.  It's a whole new genre ... trip-hop ... alt rock ... TRIP-ROCK!
